Originally 'just a singer' Paul took up bass the mid 80s out of necessity. He lost count of the number of gigs he's fronted long ago. Although with a self-taught rock background he never fully left the Irish folk of his childhood which through the likes of Clannad, Fairport and the Saw Doctors   has led him to the energy of fellow Hampshire-man Frank Turner. He also plays a traditional Irish drum, the Bodhran and various percussion.

Beginning his folk journey in Christchurch clubs in the 80s Chris made some early recording before heading overseas and ending up in Scotland for 5 years. He still plays the guitar he bought in Canada. He has a useful habit of being able to play many things very well. Earlier influences include Martin Carthy and Planxty and more recently John McCusker and Treacherous Orchestra, Chris is classically trained and is the resident 'musician'.

Paul King and Chris Power are Auckland's premier Folk based duo. Playing music and songs from traditional Irish, Scottish and English jigs and reels, there's also a good selection of well known classics that get the 'King & Power' treatment and some original material too. With well over 5 hours of live music in the repertoire there's plenty to choose from. You'll hear tunes and songs that transport you to the Irish Coast, the Scottish Highlands and English countryside along with contemporary songs by artists like The Waterboys, The Saw Doctors, Frank Turner, Mundy, Sting and Crowded House.

Sometimes the simplicity of tin whistle and Bodhran are all that's needed, others call for guitar based songs to lift the spirits and King & Power have it all. Formed in late 2018 having met in a Celtic music session both Chris and Paul have decades of experience which shows in their relaxed performance style and musicality. King and Power are completely self-contained equipment-wise and are happy to play anything from house concerts to parties, vineyards, cafe's, markets and support slots for touring bands and festivals. Also, called Irish Ceili Dances for all ages and abilities.
